Dwight Schultz on The A-Team: ''I had nothing until this happened.''
A single job can change your life if you’re open to new opportunities. If someone offered you six figures per episode to star in an action-adventure show, most people would jump at the chance and ask, "Where do I sign?"
While this happens in some cases, most of the time, unless you're a big star, the real cash doesn't come in until the series becomes a success. For Dwight Schultz, he almost missed out on being a main cast member of a hit '80s show: The A-Team.
A 1983 Cincinnati Post article said Schultz wasn’t interested in The A-Team at first, but his agent convinced him to read the script. He ended up enjoying it. "I laughed out loud," he said. About a year into the show, the article estimated his salary was between $150,000 and $225,000.
"The money is extraordinary. I had nothing until this happened. I've done 10 years of living in one year. I bought a car for the first time in my life. In New York, my wife (actress Wendy Fulton) and I lived in a one-room apartment. Our place out here (Los Angeles) is so big we literally lose each other. I mean, it's not that big. It just seems like it to us," he added.
"We used to worry about how we'd eat tomorrow. Now we can consider the possibility of a family. Before, we didn't even think about it."
