According to George Reeves, children deserved more respect than adults
Posted: October 3, 2024, 2:25PMGeorge Reeves wasn't the most opinionated celebrity, but he did share his thoughts when asked by the media. He also didn't mind sharing his appreciation of viewers who tuned in every week to make Adventures of Superman one of the most classic superhero shows in history.
In particular, Reeves thought children deserved more respect than they were given. "Kids will make you feel humble; they're so wise. I wish more parents would appreciate that," he said during an interview with International News Service in 1956. "I hate to sound presumptuous since I'm not a parent, but I am in contact with 45 million children through this show of mine, and I think they deserve more respect than most adults."
He continued, "When they shake your hand, you know you've been sincerely gripped. And when they tell you they're going to do something, they do it."
Whether you agree or not, we can all understand why Reeves felt the way he did. The support from children is what made Adventures of Superman as popular as it was, and he never had to second-guess whether they were genuine whenever they met him.
Children also made the actor feel seen, something Hollywood did a terrible job of doing.
